Operational handoffs for the teams that keep the building running

Shift Relay handles the operational side of hospital shift change — facilities, security, environmental services, transport and support operations — not clinical patient handoff.

The shift-change problem

Hospital operations run continuously with rotating teams. Equipment faults, room readiness issues, access problems and open escalations move between shifts verbally, and the follow-up is frequently lost between departments and days.

What commonly gets lost

  • Out-of-service equipment and rooms awaiting turnover
  • Facilities issues escalated but not yet resolved
  • Access, badge and security issues affecting units
  • Staffing gaps and coverage arrangements
  • Open vendor and work-order follow-ups

How Shift Relay supports the workflow

Shift leads open the shift by department or building, publish a briefing, log operational events, and publish a handoff that carries open work forward with an owner and a due date.

Example use cases

  • Carrying an open work order across three shifts without re-reporting it
  • Tracking equipment that is out of service and when it is expected back
  • Confirming that every shift lead acknowledged a policy notice
  • Reviewing repeated issues by location over a month

Security considerations

Shift Relay is an operational continuity platform, not a clinical system. It is not an EHR, does not support clinical patient handoff, and should not be used to store protected health information. Organization isolation, role-based access and audit history apply to all records.
